Krishna - a female character?

This is all about the Lord Krishna, an Hindu Mythical figure. This post is about him, particularly as a character, not as a god.

Somehow I got a feeling that Krishna is a female character, from my recent experiences.. Or I should state that the probability of Krishna being a male character is not convincing.. here are my arguments for that:

a) There is a story in Mahabharat that, Krishna married Aaravan, Arjun's son. How could Krishna can marry a male? By dates, Mahabharat should occured before 2500 years. Definitely, before 2500 no one would have capability of sexual transformation. So there is a possibility that either of them is a female, but being portrayed as males.

b) We went to Coorg a year back, and got to see one painting of Krishna, where he was portrayed as a girl. Oh no, thats not modern art. Thats a classical painting. So there is a sect of the society who see Krishna a female.

c) And this argument is a week argument: I have met couple of girls (my school mates) who are named as Krishna. (It is simply Krishna, no additional names to it).

d) Ayyappa: He is the child of Shiva and Vishnu. Once again this questions....

e) And in many other places, Krishna is disguised as beautiful girl, and traps Asuras...

I know I sound rubbish for all the Hindu-believers, but these are just my thoughts..

hey kicha... i am not an aethist... if ppl see krishna as a female version, its fine... you only sed your comments...cool...
however, this inference is only an information and nthng like wrong fact or itz not gonna have any impact on anythng...i will make a research and find out the atcual histry behind why krishna projected as female version.....

i hope u are aware that krishna is one of avathars of vishnu... sooo when the avathar can be tortoise, midget or half lion.... therz no surprise or nthng to be curious about when its a female human... :)

Kicha,

There is a long standing belief in Hindu and Christian religions that you don't need fornication to bring out a child. Eg, Murugan from Shiva and Ayyapan from Shiva and Vishnu etc. Jesus born for Virgin Mary and so on :-)

If you are theist you can take it mystical power, atheist like you can take it as Atomic reactions (or) probably Energy transfer from one body to another.

So it's upto you to take the reasoning you want. For an agnost like me, I feel it is out of my reach to explore how things happen in cosmic world, or perhaps i have other in(un)teresting jobs :-}

** AAthigam pesum adiyaarukku Sivame Anbu, Natheegam pesum nallavarukku Anbe Sivam **, thalaivar sokka solli irukaaru.

kicha,

one other thing, I do not know if you have ever visited *Arthanareesvar* temple near Salem even for Architectural details, only place where Shiva exists Half Man/Half Woman?, how is that ever possible? (not referring to Aravanis, thats entirely different story. Split the body vertically into 2 take the left half as male and right as female)

@aravind: i just see the character krishna as krishna itself, not as re-incarnation of vishnu. so as a character she has been wrongly projected as he in the forth-came years...

@srivats: oh itz totally not abt theism or atheism, but related to the myths/epics we read/heard. as i said to aravind itz abt the projection of a character..

Interesting line of thought. But I do think that the probability of Krishna being a male is much more. Rukmini, Sathyabama, Jambavathi - his wives, and his eternal love Radha. And accordinng to some texts, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krishna) Krishna apparently had 16,108 wives. ( now, isn't that amazing ;-) ).
That said, I still remember night at Coorg, when you in your full "form", being intrigued by the Krishna painting, were having a conversation with the baffled stranger about it.. ( ha ha ha ).

@srinath: the figures are interstingly amazing ;-)..

i haven't heard of Krishna and Aravans marriage. as far as i know 1.Aravan is son of Arjuna( he is been worshipped by homosexuals. may be thts why this story originated). i don't think there is story like tht in Mahabharata.

2.abt gals having the name Krishna-it is another name of Draupadi, means the one who is having dark skin tone(krishna varnam).
the name 'Krishna' is used while writing in english. otherwise it is "Krishn" in north indian languages and 'Krishnan' in south.
3. lord ayyappa's story is nowhere in any epic. there was flow from hindu to budhism. to stop this Shankaracharya made an idol and named it as ayyappa, a combinatiuon hindu and budhist belief. (the story might have arised later).

@jayakala: all the info is from net and TV. I havent read many of epics from books (and I agree my arguments become weak, hence :-) ).

enen my knowledge in these epics r limited. my point is many of the stories we believe is not there in these epics. we just create a story to suit our belief.
in kerala Lord Ayyappa is a bachelor, where as in some parts of tamilnadu(madurai, i think), people believes that Ayyappa has been married to some goddess from their place.
